LOS ANGELES – Today, leading candidate for Los Angeles County District Attorney John McKinney announced he has received the endorsement of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees 3090 (AFSCME 3090). AFSCME 3090 represents thousands of dedicated workers who ensure that our community functions smoothly every day.
“AFSCME 3090, ‘The Mighty 3090’ representing over 6,000 dedicated Los Angeles city employees, proudly endorses John McKinney for District Attorney,” said AFCSME 3090 President Larry Gates.
“John’s 25 years of service as a Deputy District Attorney, coupled with his unique life experiences and background, make him exceptionally suited to rebuild confidence in our criminal Justice system and ensure safety for all workers and families in the community.”
McKinney has served as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County since 1998, serving in hard-hitting divisions such as Hardcore Gangs and Major Crimes. He achieved success through a lifetime of determination. He lost both parents when he was very young and was raised by an older sister. After working a few years in construction, he went back to college and was eventually accepted to the prestigious law school at UCLA.
“This endorsement means a lot to me because it comes from dedicated workers who care deeply about our community,” says McKinney. “I have great respect for unions because I know firsthand how important union protected jobs are. My sister had only gone as far as high school, but she managed to secure a union protected job that provided our family with stability, a livable wage, and medical insurance throughout my upbringing.”
“City employees are on the frontlines of ensuring our communities run smoothly and are the backbone of essential government services. As District Attorney, I will collaborate with all 88 our cities to advance public safety and renew trust in our criminal justice system,” added McKinney.
