McKinney Campaign Announces Major Endorsement from Citizens for Accountable Leadership

LOS ANGELES – In a significant development in the race for Los Angeles County District Attorney, the John McKinney campaign today announced the endorsement of Citizens for Accountable Leadership (CAL), an association of distinguished business and civic leaders who are committed to promoting accountability in government and providing a platform for discussing issues relevant to the community.

CAL has a rich history and was previously organized as the African American Leadership Finance Council for the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris campaign. Saying he’s the “most qualified” candidate to replace George Gascón in 2024. Dr. Gail Willis, Chair of CAL, endorsed McKinney with a strong statement of support:

“John McKinney is the most qualified candidate for Los Angeles County District Attorney, who has sufficient knowledge and willpower to protect the rights of victims in our community, ensuring that they are safe through a fair criminal justice system that is accountable. I strongly believe that he will bring peace of mind to families in every neighborhood, so that the residents will have a better quality of life.”

Echoing this sentiment, CAL’s Vice Chair, Rickey Ivie, Esq., added:

“I strongly believe that John McKinney is the best candidate for Los Angeles County District Attorney, who has a specific understanding that small businesses are the backbone of our society and will continue to fight to support them in order to create employment opportunities for the stakeholders in our community.”

McKinney, a seasoned prosecutor with a deep commitment to justice and equality, expressed his gratitude for the endorsement:

“The endorsement from Citizens for Accountable Leadership is not only an honor but a testament to our shared vision for a Los Angeles where justice serves everyone. I am committed to ensuring a balanced, fair, and transparent criminal justice system that protects the rights of victims and supports the growth of our small businesses, vital to the fabric of our communities. “As the next District Attorney, I look forward to an ongoing dialogue with CAL, Neighborhood Councils, and Business organizations.”

McKinney has been a deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County for 25 years. Most notably, he secured a first-degree murder conviction of Eric Holder Jr., who murdered Grammy award-winning rapper Nipsey Hussle.

As the race for District Attorney intensifies, the endorsement from CAL marks a pivotal moment, reinforcing McKinney’s position as a candidate dedicated to a comprehensive and fair approach to law enforcement and community well-being in Los Angeles.
