McKinney Overwhelmingly Wins District Attorney Plebiscite Poll

LOS ANGELES – Candidate for Los Angeles County District Attorney John McKinney was the clear winner of a plebiscite poll organized by veteran prosecutors within the district attorney’s office. McKinney won the informal poll of his peers, conducted by Simply Voting, with 64.7% of the vote, an overwhelming majority of respondents. Incumbent district attorney George Gascon received a paltry 1.7% of the vote.

“John has an inspirational life story and exceptional body of work,” says Deputy District Attorney John Colello, a longtime prosecutor within the DA’s office and supporter of the plebiscite poll. “He has the character, integrity, and vision to lead prosecutors as they seek justice every single day.”

The plebiscite poll was conducted anonymously over a two-week period and participated in by 527 deputy district attorneys at the head deputy level or below with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The poll was concluded on January 28 at 6:00 p.m. and the results were shared amongst the participants. No poll organizer or participant could see how their peers voted.

“I am truly humbled and grateful for the overwhelming show of support from my esteemed colleagues,” says Deputy District Attorney John McKinney. “No one knows better what it takes to lead the District Attorney’s Office than front-line prosecutors who work day in and day out for community safety and justice. This vote of confidence reinforces my commitment to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and integrity in our legal system.”

McKinney, a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County for 25 years, served on the Gang and Major Crime units and the Victim Impact Program. Most recently, he announced a proposal to expand the County’s Hate Crimes Division.

“Together, with the lawyers, support staff, and investigators of the District Attorney’s Office, we will bring about meaningful change, real reforms, and uphold the highest standards of the law for all citizens of LA County,” added McKinney
